World Bank Concludes Mid-Term Review of Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP2)

A World Bank team has successfully completed a mid-term review of the Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP2), following a visit to the country from June 2 to 11, 2025.

The review involved extensive travel across Malaita, Guadalcanal, Western, and Temotu Provinces to assess infrastructure progress and engage with key stakeholders on-site.

In Malaita Province on June 2, the team met with representatives from the Malaita Provincial Government, Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), and project contractors to review work at Su’u Harbour and Kolofe 1 & 2 Bridges.

On June 4 in Honiara, they visited project sites for the rescue fire service station, air traffic control towers, and the aviation complex at both Honiara and Munda International Airports.

The review continued on June 5 in Santa Cruz (Lata), Temotu Province, where the team inspected the sealing of the runway and seawall construction—vital improvements to enhance air connectivity for one of the most remote parts of the country.

In Western Province on June 6, the focus turned to the Noro Roads project, where the team noted consistent progress and high-quality workmanship on a critical economic transport route.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Allan Lilia, praised the project’s tangible outcomes:
“SIRAP2 is delivering real results on the ground. The bridges, the roads, the airfields — they’re lifelines that connect our people and support daily life.”

The World Bank team also held meetings with the Ministry of Finance & Treasury, Ministry of Communication & Aviation, and Solomon Islands Airport Corporation Ltd, reaffirming their commitment to strong partnerships and effective project delivery.

SIRAP2, funded with US$140.41 million, spans five provinces and includes:

• Major upgrades at Honiara and Munda International Airports

• Improvements to Santa Cruz (Lata) and Suavanao airfields

• 43 kilometers of new roads in Noro and Malaita

• Construction of four new bridges in Malaita

The project continues to play a transformative role in connecting communities, improving accessibility, and supporting economic development across the Solomon Islands.
