The West Makira Constituency (WMC) and Central Makira Constituency (CMC) Offices of the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) formally expressed their profound gratitude to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Embassy in Honiara for its unwavering commitment to supporting local livelihoods through a generous donation of essential equipment and supplies recently.

In acknowledgement, Mr. Selwyn Aharo, the Constituency Development Officer (CDO) for WMC, conveyed the deep appreciation of the people, their Honourable Member of Parliament and Minister of Mines, Derrick Manuari for the timely contribution of essential household equipment to his constituency.
“On behalf of the West Makira Constituency, we extend our sincerest thanks to the PRC Embassy and its representatives, particularly Attaché Officer Mr. Tran, for this act of generosity,” Mr. Aharo stated.
“Just two weeks ago, we received assurances of this support, and today, we witness its fulfilment.

“This gesture reaffirms the strong friendship between our communities and the People’s Republic of China, and we are proud to stand alongside you in advancing shared goals for development and prosperity in the Solomon Islands.”
Mr. Aharo emphasised the transformative impact of the donation, which aligns with the constituency’s mission: “To pledge and dedicate our commitments to work with children, youths, persons with disabilities, and adults to overcome all forms of social injustice and inequality, upholding justice and equality for all.”

He assured that the donations would be distributed equitably to benefit all segments of society, including women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, ensuring no one is left behind.

The donations include;

• 1 Ice making Machine
• 200 Solar Reading Lights
• 40 Solar Torch Lights
• 80 T-Shirts

Echoing the similar sentiments, Mr. Gravis Tahiri, Constituency Development Officer (CDO) for Central Makira Constituency, also thanked the PRC Embassy for its vital contribution to improving livelihoods in rural communities.

“We are truly humbled by the PRC’s generosity, which will directly enhance the quality of life for our people,” Mr. Tahiri said. The support includes:

• 1 Ice making Machine
• 16 Mobile Power Units with Solar Panels
• 55 Lanterns
• 60 Solar Reading Lights
• 3 Solar Lights
• 29 Solar Torch Lights
• 50 Infrared Thermometers
• 4 Sewing Machines
• 160 T-shirts

Mr. Tahiri confirmed that these resources would be distributed to students, elders, and vulnerable groups in rural areas, empowering them with sustainable tools.

He further emphasized that the solar equipment goes a long way in assisting school kids in more reading and study time after hours or night-times and support with elderly standard of living and improve rural economies.
“Such gesture symbolises good friendship and I want to thank PRC Embassy for these timely support to the people of CMC,” Tahiri said.

The Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) also acknowledged PRC’s for its ongoing support towards developing rural livelihoods and improving the standard of living for rural Solomon Islanders. The Ministry furthermore reaffirms its ongoing cooperation and partnership with the PRC Embassy in the national rural development program.
MRD appeals to both constituency offices to utilise the donations transparently and ensuring maximum benefit for their communities and the needy.

As the Solomon Islands continues to navigate through challenges and opportunities on its development path, support from the PRC remains invaluable in this process.

The MRD looks forward to further collaboration with the PRC and other development partners to foster sustainable progress for all rural Solomon Islanders.
