TIKTOK FRIENDS SPREAD LOVE ON INDEPENDENCE DAY AT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

While thousands gathered around Honiara to celebrate Solomon Islands’ 47th Independence Anniversary, a group of TikTok users chose to celebrate in a different way, by bringing smiles and music to the Children’s Ward at the National Referral Hospital.

Led by local music star Jaro Local, the team visited the hospital with gifts, laughter, and heartfelt performances to lift the spirits of young patients and their families. Their goal? To ensure that even those spending Independence Day in a hospital bed still felt part of the national celebration.

Joining the visit were other well-known artists including Mi Santana and Takupele, who sang and interacted with children and parents alike, creating moments of joy and connection.

The initiative was organised by a local TikTok group called the Kava Jam Crew, who formed with a mission to give back to the community. Their aim has always been to visit places like hospitals, prisons, and other institutions that often go unnoticed during big celebrations.

“Today was special,” said Alex Waimora, a member of the crew. “Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces, and especially their parents and guardians, was a reminder of what true celebration means. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.”

The team extended their appreciation to a wide group of supporters, including fellow TikTok creators, businesses, and individuals who contributed either in person or behind the scenes:

Their efforts prove that even on a day of national pride, the most powerful act can be a small gesture of kindness, especially to those who need it most.
