Australia Awards Biomedical Engineering graduate Simeon Pitukolo is using his skills to inspire the next generation of Solomon Islands innovators through a hands-on Robotics Challenge for senior secondary students in Honiara.
Backed by an Australia Awards Alumni Grant, Simeon led a six-week robotics training program for students from three schools. The program not only introduced students to the world of robotics and technology, but also encouraged creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.
The training culminated in a friendly competition in June, where teams from each school put their skills to the test. King George VI School emerged as the winner of the Robotics Challenge, impressing judges with their teamwork and technical design.
โThe Robotics Challenge helped us gain new knowledge, but it also provided a sense of unity,โ said Wangkook, a KGVI student. โStudents continued to show up each Sunday, committed and motivated by curiosity and passion.โ
Australia remains committed to supporting changemakers like Simeon, who are empowering youth and shaping a brighter future for Solomon Islands through education and innovation.
