Honiara — Lauru Kuvojo’s dream of reaching the Solomon Cup 2025 semi-finals has ended, not because of a defeat on the field, but because of a decision made off it. Despite securing a crucial win and holding second place, the Choiseul side has been knocked out of semi-final contention following a controversial ruling by the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF).
The decision came after SIFF awarded Western Football Association (WFA) a forfeit win over Makira Ulawa (MUFA), who breached tournament rules by fielding too many guest players. While Western gained three points and climbed to first place, Makira remained in second, pushing Lauru Kuvojo down to third and out of the semi-finals.
Supporters and players alike have expressed heartbreak and frustration, saying the team did everything right on the pitch, only to be punished for a match they weren’t even part of.
“We played fair, we played hard, and we earned our place. Now we’re out, it just doesn’t feel right,” said one Lauru Kuvojo fan.
