JICA Welcomes Four New Volunteers to the Solomon Islands

Honiara, 30 July 2025 – The JICA Solomon Islands Office has welcomed four new Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) who arrived in the country today. The volunteers will begin with orientation briefings, including Pidgin language lessons, and will take part in a village stay program in Tamboko, Guadalcanal Province, to help them better understand local culture and communities.

The new volunteers are assigned to various roles across the country:

• Ms. Mifuyu will serve as an Environmental Education Officer at Honiara City Council (HCC).

• Mr. Tsutomu will teach Physical Education at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU).

• Ms. Naomi will teach Japanese Language at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU).

• Ms. Hana will be based at FM Campbell School in Makira-Ulawa Province as a PE teacher, primarily working with secondary students.

Sharing his excitement, Mr. Tsutomu said, “The view of the sea and mountains is simply beautiful. Everyone has been so friendly, and I’m excited about what lies ahead.”

Ms. Mifuyu also expressed her hopes, stating, “One of my goals is to help make Honiara a cleaner, more livable city and to raise awareness about environmental cleanliness.”

With their arrival, the total number of JOCVs currently serving in the Solomon Islands has risen to twenty-six. The JICA Solomon Islands Office looks forward to highlighting the valuable contributions each volunteer will make in their respective fields and communities.
