Customs Declarants Complete ASYCUDA User Functional Training

Honiara, 30th July 2025 – Solomon Islands Customs and Excise Division (SICED) recently conducted a three-day ASYCUDA (Automated System for Customs Data) User Functional Training for its Business Clients known as Declarants.

The Training commenced on July 30th and 31st last month, followed by a Theory Assessment on Friday, August 1st.

The Training aims to equip the Customs and Excise Division (SICED) Declarants with the relevant knowledge and skills on how to use the ASYCUDA System and also to inform these clearing Agents/Brokers of the Legislations that govern the operation of the ASYCUDA system.

The Training covers;

• Creating Customs Single Administration Documents (SADs) of both IMPORTs and EXPORTs, including Warehousing.

• Identifying Errors and determining the Solution to the errors using the ASYCUDA System.

• ASYCUDA Legislation (Laws that govern the operation of the ASYCUDA system)

One of the participants who represents Satsol Co. Ltd, Jason Lamani, said that the training provided a comprehensive understanding of the ASYCUDA system, including its functionalities, data management processes, and procedures for customs declaration and clearances.

“I have learned about the ASYCUDA system’s role in enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accuracy in customs operations.

“The ASYCUDA training is highly relevant to my role because it equips me with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize the system for processing customs documentation and ensuring compliance.

Customs Declarants or Clearing Agents practically do a Theory Assessment as part of the ASYCUDA User Functional Training

“At the company level, it promotes streamlined operations, reduces processing times, and minimizes errors, thereby contributing to overall operational efficiency and improved service delivery,” Mr. Lamani explained.

“I will apply this training by accurately and efficiently entering data into the ASYCUDA system, following established procedures, and ensuring timely processing of customs declarations.

“I will also use the skills gained to troubleshoot issues and support colleagues in system-related tasks, ultimately enhancing our team’s productivity,” he added.

The Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA), is a computerized system developed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to manage customs and international trade operations.

It’s designed to handle various aspects of customs procedures, including declarations, accounting, transit, and suspense procedures, while also generating valuable trade data for analysis. Essentially, it’s a comprehensive system that streamlines and automates customs processes, making trade more efficient and transparent.

The Customs ASYCUDA User Functional Training is not available to all training applications, but intakes are based on applicants who meet all the mandated requirements in place. Therefore, a minimum of 5 to 7 applicants can only be approved for each training session at a given time.
