Honiara, Solomon Islands – August 31, 2025
Leony Pusua from Guadalcanal has made a stunning debut in the 42KM race at the 2025 Fly Solomon Peace Marathon, claiming first place in a highly competitive race over the weekend.
Having previously competed in the half marathon, where he consistently placed third or fourth, this year marked his first attempt at the 42KM distance. Despite not undergoing specific training for the race, Pusua arrived with a clear goal to win.

“I came with the aim to win it,” he said confidently after crossing the finish line.

Sponsored by Skybus, Pusua said he felt both privileged and motivated to represent his sponsor well. That determination proved crucial, especially with the race featuring international athletes and members of the local expat community, a lineup that initially left him feeling nervous.
“I was scared and nervous seeing the international runners,” he shared. “But I just focused, followed the lead runner, and when the time was right, I took the front.”

His strategic pacing and perseverance paid off, allowing him to surge ahead and maintain his lead until the finish.
This victory marks a major milestone in Pusua’s running journey, not just a personal best but a powerful achievement of grit and belief.
