Firisua, who congratulated Leony Pusua for his victory in the marathon, said the event showed that the future of long-distance running in the country is becoming increasingly competitive again.

“One of our runners just competed in the recent Mini Pacific Games in Palau and placed second, which is a great sign.”said Firisua.

“We need to have more of this kind of competition so that our athletes can use it to train and gain experience,” Firisua emphasized.

She acknowledged the important role of sponsors, particularly Skybus, in supporting athletes, also companies that showed their support to the marathon and expressed gratitude to Solomon Airlines for creating an event that not only tests physical fitness but also builds mental strength in a competitive atmosphere.

Firisua encouraged the athletic federation and stakeholders to continue investing in such opportunities, stressing that more regular events will allow athletes to put their training into practice and lift the overall standard of running in the Solomon Islands.
