Urgent road repairs to Kaevanga Road in the Hograno Kia Havulei (HKH) constituency in Isabel Province are progressing well, with 80% of the work completed.
The contract for the 8 km road from Kaevanga station to Tuseli commenced in July this year and will be completed by November.
The Ministry’s Transport Infrastructure Management Services Division regional team visited the work site over the weekend (5th and 6th September) and confirmed that the repair work has progressed well and is ahead in execution of their work scope.
Regional Manager (Acting) John Lolley, during the road inspection, shares his satisfaction with the road works and the contractors’ competence in expediting the scope as stipulated in the contract.
“Road condition has deteriorated so badly in the last two years, and with this work a lot has improved, with the worst sections repaired using river gravel for durability.
“The base course for this road is well mixed by the contractor and team and will remain safe for road users for quite some time before the next phase of repairs.
“Overall, we are glad that the contractor has engaged casual labor from surrounding villages, helping in the clearance of vegetation and fixing small bridges not in the scope,” he said, adding that this is a show of genuine support and community service to help those nearby communities.
Patteson Mae’idua, Managing Director of Homesafe Civil Works—the local contractor overseeing the project—highlighted efforts in upgrading their machinery fleet and employing 10 local laborers from Kolotubi and surrounding areas.

“Our team is committed to delivering quality work, and the involvement of local workers reflects our genuine support and empowering rural boys,” he said.
Local contractor for this project, Homesafe Civil Works managing director Patteson Mae’idua, said their road works team has engaged new machinery for this road with the inclusion of 10 local laborers from surrounding areas at Kolotubi.
MID will continue to provide supervision for the remaining works to ensure compliance and timely completion.
Kaevanga Road serves as a vital link for the highland communities of Hograno district, many of whom rely on it for transporting key agricultural products such as kava, coffee, copra, cocoa, and other commodities to the wharf and beyond.
The provincial government representative for the Kolotubi ward, Ernest Ihomare, expressed his thankfulness for the government in allocating funding for these repairs and wished to see its extension to Kolomola in the highlands.
“This road runs through my ward and Kolomola, serving nearly 1000 people and helping lives be easier to reach destinations such as the wharf, schools, clinics, and other services.”
