Honiara — Heartbreak has struck the G.S. Faisi TVET agriculture project after thieves, known locally as beligas, raided and illegally harvested more than 200 Saladia hybrid cabbages last night.
The cabbages were just two weeks away from harvest, the result of weeks of hard work by students and coordinators. This project was not just about food, but about teaching young people valuable skills in agriculture and helping them build a better future.
Now, rows of empty plots stand where healthy cabbages once grew. What was supposed to be a moment of pride for the community has turned into disappointment and frustration.

Community members say this is yet another example of how beligas continue to hurt development efforts in and around Honiara. These thefts not only rob people of food and income, they also destroy the spirit of those trying to make a positive change.
“This project was meant to benefit everyone,” a community leader said. “Now we are left with nothing.”

Residents are urging anyone who sees Saladia cabbage being sold in the Border area to report it immediately by calling 7563919.
The message from the community is clear: these acts of theft must stop. If we want to grow together as a nation, we must protect and respect the efforts of those working hard to build a better future.
