Honiara, Sunday 14 September 2025 – Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele arrived in Port Moresby this afternoon at the invitation of Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, Hon. James Marape, to join Pacific Leaders, and the Government and people of Papua New Guinea in celebrating the country’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
The official celebrations will be held on Tuesday 16 September under the theme “Celebrate Our History, Inspire Our Future.”
Prime Minister Manele travelled from Honiara following the conclusion of the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting, joining other Pacific Leaders who have also gathered in Port Moresby to mark this historic occasion with the Government and people of Papua New Guinea.

Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea share a long-standing relationship built on centuries of common heritage, enduring cultural ties, mutual respect, and Melanesian solidarity.
Standing together on this milestone occasion, the 50th Independence Anniversary not only honours PNG’s remarkable journey but also reinforces the unity and resilience that bind the peoples of both nations within the Blue Pacific family.
Following the Independence celebrations, Prime Minister Manele will travel to New York, to participate at the 80th United Nations General Assembly from 21–28 September 2025. During his absence, the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Frederick Kologeto, will supervise the Office of the Prime Minister.
