Suva, Fiji – The Solomon Islands Kurukuru started their OFC Futsal Men’s Cup 2025 campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win over New Zealand, with goalkeeper Cliff Sasau Jnr delivering a great performance between the posts.
Sasau Jnr conceded just once from a well-taken New Zealand free kick but stayed solid throughout the match, making key saves and covering his area with confidence. His calm presence gave the Kurukuru the stability they needed to hold onto their narrow lead.
The Solomon Islands scored first, were pegged back by New Zealand, but showed resilience to score again and close out the match. The win gives them a perfect start to the tournament and momentum heading into their next game.
