The Deputy Commissioner Operations of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI), Mr. Michael Nagu, has safely returned to the country after successfully participating in the International Correctional Leadership Exchange Programme (ICLP) held in Singapore.
The programme, held under the theme “Enhancing Correctional Workforce Capabilities,” brought together correctional leaders and practitioners from around the world to exchange insights, strengthen professional networks, and explore innovative approaches to modern correctional management.
Deputy Commissioner Nagu highlighted that the ICLP emphasized leadership development, staff capability building, public engagement, and collaborative reform strategies, all essential for building an effective and resilient correctional system.

Throughout the week, participants took part in a series of thematic sessions and activities, including:
• Workforce Development: Focused on enhancing inmate employability and career progression, while developing resilient and future-ready correctional staff.
• Leadership and Engagement: Participants engaged in dialogue with the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of Prisons, gaining valuable insights into strategic leadership and institutional priorities.
• Public Communications: Experts shared best practices in media relations and community outreach aimed at building public trust and support for correctional initiatives.
• Site Visit: Delegates toured the Singapore Prison Training Institute to observe training methodologies, competency frameworks, and operational excellence practices.
• Cultural Exchange: Informal networking and cultural appreciation were fostered through social activities such as a dinner at Satay by the Bay and sightseeing at Gardens by the Bay.
Nagu’s participation in this prestigious programme reflects CSSI’s continued commitment to strengthening international partnerships and enhancing institutional capacity through the adoption of innovative correctional practices.
