MINISTER WASI HANDS OVER NEW VEHICLES TO MAL RESEARCH AND BIOSECURITY

The Minister for Agriculture and Livestock (MAL), Hon. Franklyn Derek Wasi, today handed over two brand-new Hilux vehicles to the MAL Research Department and Biosecurity Solomon Islands. The vehicles were donated by the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT).

Minister Wasi expressed his gratitude to the government for allocating three vehicles to the ministry, with one already handed over in Noro, Western Province. He emphasized the importance of these vehicles in supporting the critical roles of the two departments in enhancing food security, promoting agricultural development, and protecting the country’s biosecurity.

“These vehicles will significantly enhance the mobility and efficiency of your work,” Minister Wasi said. “I urge you to take good care of them and use them for their intended purpose. Any misuse of government vehicles will not be tolerated.”

MAL Research Department Director Martin Jaiki welcomed the donation, stating that the vehicle would enable his team to conduct research and field extension work in Honiara and parts of Guadalcanal province. “We assure you and your MAL Executive Management team that the vehicle will be well-maintained and used decently,” he said.

Biosecurity Solomon Islands Director Jean Eroa Manepora’a echoed similar sentiments, highlighting that the vehicle would strengthen biosecurity mobility at Honiara’s international seaport and airport, particularly in enhancing surveillance work to prevent the entry and spread of new pests and diseases.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Samson Viulu expressed his gratitude to Minister Wasi for securing the vehicles and allocating them where they are most needed.

The handing over ceremony marked a significant milestone in enhancing the capacity of the MAL Research Department and Biosecurity Solomon Islands to deliver their mandated tasks.
