The Heritage Park Roundabout is now partly complete, and the seaside section is expected to be reopened to traffic this week, improving access at this key intersection. Whilst part of the roundabout is reopened for use, the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), will continue works on the landside section to fully complete the upgrade.

Once these works are completed, asphalt resurfacing along the wider Mendana Avenue corridor, together with other general roadside improvements, will follow after all underground drainage and utility service work is finalised. Works are targeted to be completed by mid-2026, but overall construction progress remains subject to prevailing weather conditions.

The overall upgrade spans approximately 1.7 kilometres, extending from Town Ground to the Honiara City Council (HCC) Roundabout, and will significantly improve road safety, drainage, and driving conditions along this key urban corridor, including some of Honiaraโ€™s busiest intersections.

Meanwhile, works on the four-lane section at Rove (landside), also being undertaken by CCECC, are continuing and are expected to be completed within the next couple of weeks. Remaining works will then be the new roundabout at Rifle Range (and its approaches) together with the various permanent road safety features and street lighting.

Commenting on the progress of works, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), Mr. Allan Lilia, said: โ€œThe Heritage Park Roundabout is a critical traffic node in Honiara. Reopening the roundabout, while works continue, demonstrates steady progress on the project. Once fully completed, these upgrades will enhance safety, reduce congestion, and deliver long-term benefits for road users and the city.โ€

Members of the public, including drivers and pedestrians, are kindly advised to continue exercising caution around construction areas, follow all traffic signs and traffic management instructions, and be mindful of workers on site. While some traffic congestion may still be experienced due to ongoing works and limited alternative routes, traffic management measures will remain in place to mitigate impacts as far as practicable.

The continued patience and understanding of the general public during this period of improvement is greatly appreciated.

The project is being implemented under the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP), jointly funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Solomon Islands Government (SIG).
