The Honiara City Council Law Enforcement Division has confirmed that a woman arrested at the Central Market on Friday, 27 March 2026, has been convicted by the court.
According to the Director of the Law Enforcement Division, the woman was arrested during a law enforcement operation at the Central Market for failing to comply with a direction from the Market Manager.
The offence was committed under Section 9(1)(a) and 10(a) A.R.W., Section 11 of the Honiara City Council Markets Ordinance 2011.
The woman was found unloading and storing salt fish at the boat ramp area of the Central Market. This area is prohibited following a public notice issued to salt fish vendors, stopping them from selling at the market. Despite the notice, she continued using the area for unloading and storing her goods.
She appeared before the Honiara Magistratesβ Court on Monday, 30 March 2026, where she was convicted and fined $500. If the fine is not paid, she will serve 20 days in prison.
The Director of Law Enforcement said the Council will continue to monitor activities at the Central Market and take action against anyone who fails to follow market rules and directions from market authorities.
