SICCI: Solomon Islands’ SED needs the alignment of industry needs and educational training

The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has reinforced its call to align skills provided by educational institutions with the evolving needs of the local industries.

SICCI has pointed out that bridging the gap between education and industry is crucial for the nation’s sustainable economic development.

Commenting during University of South Pacific – Pacific TAFE information Session last week, Chief Executive Officer of SICCI, Mr. James Dolarii said aligning industry needs and educational training will not only address skill gaps but also enhancing collaboration between education and industry for better economic growth.

He stressed that fostering a closer partnership between schools and businesses will encourage stronger and more resilient workforce.

Mr. Dolarii suggests that educational institutions must work more closely with industry leaders to develop curriculum frameworks and training programs that reflect the skills and knowledge required in the workforce.

“By tailoring courses to match the specific needs of industries, graduates will be better equipped to transition smoothly into the job market,” he said.

Mr. Dolarii said SICCI remains hopeful that efforts put forward will result in a more coordinated and impactful approach to workforce training, ultimately benefiting both businesses and job seekers in the Solomon Islands.
