COUNCILOR YEO ENGAGES GILBERT CAMP COMMUNITIES ON NEW CLINIC PROJECT AT ILIA SCHOOL

Councilor for Panatina Ward 12, Cr Lydia Yeo, recently met with communities in the Gilbert Camp area to discuss the proposed construction of a new clinic at Ilia School in East Honiara.

The project aims to address the pressing need for accessible healthcare services in the area, which has seen increased population and health challenges.

During the dialogue, at Ilia School on Sunday 22nd of September 2024, Cr Yeo emphasized the importance of community collaboration and participation in the project, noting that the clinic will provide essential health services, including maternal and child care, vaccinations, and general outpatient services.

“This clinic will be a critical facility for the community, especially for those who have to travel long distances for basic healthcare,” Cr Yeo stated.

Community leaders expressed their support for the initiative, highlighting the need for improved health infrastructure in the area. However, some residents raised concerns about the clinic’s long-term sustainability, including staffing and maintenance of which Cr Yeo assured them that the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities would be engaged to ensure the facility is adequately resourced and maintained.

The construction of the clinic at Ilia School is expected to begin within the next few months, with Cr Yeo calling on the community to work together for the project’s success.

“Your cooperation is vital in making this clinic a reality,” she said.

The clinic is part of a broader effort by the Panatina War to improve healthcare access for residents in the Gilbert Camp area and surrounding communities.
