MOCKERY OF WESTERN PROVINCE’S CULTURE and TRADITIONS

A recently shared footage on Facebook from the SINU open day has sparked significant outrage among some people of the Western Province community.

The video, intended to showcase the region’s rich cultural heritage, featured a dance performance that many think of it as a mockery of their traditions.

One particular dance move, resembling the twerk often associated with strip clubs, was seen as disrespectful and offensive. The dance began to look like they were performing  sex.

Evil is creeping into our institutions, and claims culture is a reflection of sick society.

This misrepresentation not only undermines the cultural values and dignity of the community but also keeps the stereotypes that treat their rich history as unimportant going.

These dancers are also students, and they should’ve known better.

I am sad to see this, I am a student from Western province as well, and this is the reason I didn’t want to join these dancing groups.

For many in the Western Province, traditional dances are expressions of identity and pride; thus, the use of such inappropriate movements was viewed as a betrayal of those very principles, igniting a broader conversation about cultural sensitivity and respect.

What do you think?

  1. Sad to see these two grown up students did this disrespectful dance.
I just assumed that these dancers were showcasing their daily actions at their dwelling places. They just don’t care who watched, could be their female relatives were also watching..indeed SINU is trainning a bunch of evil doers and bad leaders.
