The Western Provincial Government (WPG) has extended its gratitude to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Solomon Islands for the quality upgrade and renovation of the dilapidated ablution block at Titiana Community High and Primary School.
The project was fully funded by ADRA Australia and implemented by ADRA Solomon Islands under the Turn on the Tap (TOTT) Project.
The official handover ceremony took place at the school on Wednesday, October 2, and was attended by the school’s board, administration, guardians, the principal, and students, all of whom expressed their appreciation to ADRA Solomon Islands for the new facility.
Construction began in May 2024 and was completed in June. The JK Mabuzu Rural Training Centre (RTC) Carpentry School in West Gizo was contracted to carry out the work under an agreement between ADRA’s TOTT Project and the school.
Speaking at the official handover, WPG’s Minister of Health and Medical Services, Hon. Kenneth George, encouraged staff and students to take good care of the new facility.
“This is an important project, implemented specifically for your use’’
“I urge all of you, including the surrounding communities, to respect these facilities and maintain them, so they can continue to serve future generations,’’Mr George stated.
He also suggested that the school must allocate part of its budget for the upkeep of the facility, including the provision of toilet paper, detergents, soap, and sanitary products for young girls.
“To ADRA, I encourage you to consider extending similar support to other schools across the Western Province to ensure equitable access to such facilities,” he added.
Speaking onbehalf of the school, Deputy Principal of Titiana CHS Dennis Doro Narakana thanked ADRA Solomon Islands for the renovations.
“We have long struggled without proper ablution facilities, which made things difficult for our students’’
‘’Today, we are truly grateful to ADRA SI for upgrading our rundown block, giving our students access to clean and proper facilities,” Mr. Narakana said.
Mr. Davies Pitavoqa, representing the United Church Education Authority in the Solomon Islands, also expressed his appreciation to ADRA for the financial support. “We are very thankful to ADRA Australia and ADRA SI for funding this important project’’
“We recognize the hard work and commitment that went into its successful completion, and we truly appreciate this contribution to our school and our students,” Mr. Pitavoqa said.
Meanwhile in his remarks, ADRA Solomon Islands Director Leyn Gantare emphasized the importance of maintaining the facility for the benefit of students’ health.“I urge school leaders and students to keep the facility clean, ensuring its long-term use and sustainability,” Mr. Gantare said.
