The CEMA Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) is actively engaging in discussions with the Youth Entrepreneur Council of Solomon Islands (YECSI), the Policy Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Unit (PIMEU), and the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children, and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) to explore the possibility of renewing key agreements that support the empowerment and development of young entrepreneurs across the nation.
The CSC’s collaborative discussions aim to assess the current state of partnerships and explore new opportunities to drive youth participation in the agricultural and commercial sectors, aligning with CEMA’s revitalization strategy. By reviewing the progress of existing agreements and identifying areas for further support, the CSC hopes to build stronger platforms for economic growth and inclusion, especially for young people in rural communities.
“CEMA recognizes the important role youth play in the future of the Solomon Islands’ agriculture and economy,” said Simon Chottu, Director of the CEMA Cabinet Sub-Committee. “Through partnerships and continued discussions, we are committed to empowering young entrepreneurs and ensuring that they have the resources and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development. Engaging our youths in agriculture is crucial, and through training and employment in coconut and cocoa plantations, we can foster their growth. Establishing buying agents through YECSI members in rural areas and provinces will keep them employed and contributing to our national development and economy.”
This review process, which includes a presentation from YECSI and consultations with key figures within PIMEU and MWYCFA, is a crucial step towards reinforcing CEMA’s mission to strengthen local industries, particularly through the involvement of the younger generation.
The outcomes of these discussions are expected to influence the 2025 national budget allocation, with a focus on funding support for initiatives that foster youth participation in the agriculture and commercial sectors.
CEMA is committed to building sustainable economic pathways for Solomon Islanders through collaboration, innovation, and inclusive development. The continued partnership with YECSI, PIMEU, and MWYCFA underscores CEMA’s dedication to empowering young entrepreneurs and ensuring the long-term success of the nation’s agricultural economy.
