Mangau Repeats: We are still waiting for OAG referrals on ESP Audit

Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau has reiterated to the media that his officers are still waiting for referrals from the Office of the Auditor General on those that maybe implicated in the ESP Audit Report.

It was the second Thursday in a row that Mangau was asked the same question by the media and he had the same answer.
“We are still waiting for the OAG for any referrals,” he said.

Without any referrals, the RSIPF is unable to do anything or investigate those that were alleged to abuse the $309m ESP.

The Economic Stimulus Package was dished out by the government following the COVID-19 to help businesses recover from the epidemic.

The audit found widespread abuse of the public funds especially in the way the funds were released to the beneficiaries. It also found extensive abuse of imprests amounting to millions of dollars.  That had led to calls for police to deal with the those implicated.

Mangau told the press three weeks ago that his officers had a meeting with the OAG and were waiting to investigate any referrals by the Auditor-General.
However, according to the police chief yesterday, they were still waiting on OAG for referral.

“We are still waiting,” said Mangau yesterday when asked the question.
