The Solomon Islands will host two crucial regional convenings on Maritime Transport which will see senior government officials and directors of maritime administrations from Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs).
The Second Steering Committee of the Pacific One-Maritime Framework and the Third Pacific Regional Heads of Maritime Meeting, convened in partnership with the Pacific Community (SPC) will be held at the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) headquarters in Honiara.
Solomon Islands was elected chair of the POMF Steering Committee, tasked with the development of the POMF and driving the engagement with and of various stakeholders in the Maritime Sector to inform the draft which will be tabled for review at the meeting of the Heads of Maritime. The POMF development process is supported by technical agencies and development partners from SPC International Maritime Organization (IMO), the European Union and the United Kingdom.
The POMF aims to unify the efforts of PICTs facilitating a voluntary, cooperative approach to enhance maritime connectivity. While fostering regional cooperation, the POMF respects the sovereignty of each PICT, supporting their autonomy in making decisions that best suit their national interests and unique maritime contexts.
For this third Heads of Maritime meeting, members will review progress since the second meeting held in Fiji in April 2024 with a particular focus on the development process of the POMF.
Members of the media are invited to send their journalist and photographer or videographer to attend and cover the high-level opening of the Third Heads of Maritime meeting on Tuesday 26 November 2024 at the FFA’s conference room in Honiara at 9 am which will be officiated by the Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Honourable Jeremiah Manele.
