The Ambassador of Spain to the Solomon Islands, Her Excellency Ms Esther Monterrubio Villar has presented her letter of credence to the Governor General, His Excellency, Reverend David Tipa Kapu at Government House on Thursday (28th November 2024).
In his welcome address, His Excellency Reverend David Tipa Kapu highlighted the growing partnership between the two nations and expressed gratitude for Spain’s commitment to strengthening its ties with the Solomon Islands and the broader Pacific region.
“Your continued support, particularly in fostering multilateral cooperation through platforms like the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), is of great significance to us.
βTogether with our Pacific neighbors, we are working to review and enhance the regional architecture, ensuring it becomes more sovereign and fit for purpose,” Reverend Kapu stated.
The Governor General expressed Solomon Islands readiness to work with Spain in areas of mutual interest, including fisheries, tourism, renewable energy, and education.
βWe are especially excited about the potential for further strengthening our educational ties through initiatives like the Language Assistants Programme and online courses offered by the Instituto Cervantes,β He added.
Governor General Kapu said Solomon Islands remains committed to deepening its friendship with Spain and enhancing our engagement in the Pacific region.
βI am confident that together we will continue to build a strong and prosperous future for our nations and for the broader Pacific community,β He added.
Solomon Islands and Spain established diplomatic relations in March 1980 with the latterβs Embassy in Canberra accredited to Solomon Islands.
Despite the geographical distance, relations between the two countries have always been cordial and centred on mutual respect and historical ties.
