Visale, 6th December 2024 — The Daughters of Mary Immaculate (DMI) successfully concluded their 13th General Chapter today at the DMI Sisters Convent in Visale, marking a significant moment for the congregation. Sr. Goreti Iramata DMI was re-elected as Mother General, continuing her leadership from the previous term that began in 2020.
The election process, held at the Our Lady of Visitation Divit RTC Conference Hall, saw the participation of 21 sisters who nominated candidates for the Mother General and General Council positions. The day’s events commenced with a solemn Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Archbishop Christopher Cardone OP, with Fr. John Adai assisting.
The liturgy set a reverent tone for the proceedings, invoking the guidance of the Holy Spirit for the elections.
During the election, three sisters were nominated for the position of Mother General: Sr. Goreti Iramata, Sr. Jennifer Seni, and Sr. Constance. Sr. Goreti secured a decisive win, receiving 17 votes.
Archbishop Cardone, accompanied by Fr. John Adai as consultor and Sr. Prista SMSM as secretary, presided over the election process. Following her re-election, Sr. Goreti was joined by her newly elected General Councilors: Sr. Jennifer Seni, Sr. Immaculata Bata, Sr. Josephine Pinu, and Sr. Rose Kisi.
In his congratulatory address, Archbishop Cardone praised the newly elected leadership team, emphasizing the importance of their mission to preach, teach, and live the Gospel with joy, drawing inspiration from the Blessed Virgin Mary. Reflecting on the chapter’s theme, “Working Together as a Congregation to Participate in the Mission of the Church,” He emphasized the importance of working together in faith and love to face the spiritual and social challenges of our time. He encouraged the sisters to follow the example of Mary Immaculate by dedicating themselves to God’s mission with hearts full of service, kindness, and the desire to share the Good News.
Sr. Goreti, who hails from Hunanaua Village, Tarapaina in Malaita Province, expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her to lead the congregation for a second term. Under her guidance, the DMI Sisters aim to continue their commitment to service and spiritual growth.
The week-long General Chapter brought the sisters together in prayer, reflection, and strategic planning for the next four years. The congregation congratulated Sr. Goreti and her council, offering their prayers and best wishes for a fruitful term in leadership.
