Police Constable Leo Peluereu from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Maritime Force has achieved a remarkable milestone, graduating from the prestigious New Entry Officers Course (NEOC) at HMAS Creswell, the Royal Australian Naval College, last week. This 18-week course, conducted at Australia’s renowned naval institution, equips future officers with the skills to become professional sailors, maritime leaders, and resilient officers.
PC Peluereu is the first Solomon Islands officer to undertake this training with the Royal Australian Navy, a historic achievement for both him and the RSIPF. He was joined by officers from various Pacific nations, further emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in maritime security.
RSIPF Maritime Director, Superintendent Nevol Soko, was present at the graduation ceremony, expressing his pride and highlighting the significance of this achievement for the RSIPF.
After six months of tough training and studies, PC Peluereu will return to Honiara to spend time with his wife and two children before heading back to Australia. There, he will undergo additional training to qualify as a professional Maritime Watchkeeper aboard the Royal Australian Navy’s Guardian Class Patrol Boats, RSIPV Gizo and RSIPV Taro.
This achievement marks an important step forward in the professional development of the RSIPF Maritime Force and highlights the growing partnership between Solomon Islands and Australia in safeguarding the region’s maritime security.
