Training for Isabel and Makira-Ulawa NEEC Enumerators kicks off

The Solomon Islands National Statistics Office, SINSO, has begun training for Makira-Ulawa and Isabel province, before successful candidates will go out to conduct the National Economic Establishment Census, NEEC, 2024 in their respective areas.

Makira-Ulawa and Isabel are the last two provinces to undergo training for the establishment Census which commenced field work in the first week of November this year.

The undertaking aims to reach selected areas in all provinces within Solomon Islands to collect information on businesses that will make up a thorough and complete update of registered businesses in the country.

Currently Choiseul, Western, Guadalcanal, Honiara, Malaita, Ren-bel and Central Provinces have completed their field work, while Temotu Province continues with its data collection.

Upon completion of their training, Makira-Ulawa and Isabel province enumerators will carry out their data collection when they return to their provinces in the new year.

So far the Establishment Census has been implemented successfully and according to the specified time-frame. It will conclude on the final week of December 2024.

The information collected in the Establishment Census will be used to update the Statistical Business Register and will serve as the foundation for all business statistics and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates.

SINSO is collaborating with the World Bank in the Census that is conducted under the Statistical Law (Amendment Act 2007), which means all businesses and institutions/organizations are legally obliged to cooperate and provide the requested information as complete and accurate as possible to the SINSO field officers conducting the census.

The Census falls under component 2 of the Building Capacity in Statistics and Audit, CAPSA project, a partnership between the Solomon Islands Government and World Bank.
