The Member of Parliament for East Central Guadalcanal, Hon. Lazarus Alfred Rimah, has expressed his disappointment after noticing that there was no budget allocation for the establishment of a township or headquarters for Guadalcanal Province in the Appropriation Bill.
Hon. Lazarus reminded the House that since 2021, the people of Guadalcanal have heard numerous promises about the development of a provincial headquarters, yet nothing has materialized. He pointed out that every other province in the Solomon Islands has its own administrative headquarters, except Guadalcanal, the country’s largest province.
The MP emphasized the need for the people of Guadalcanal to have a designated place for government business, as Honiara, the capital city, continues to grow more crowded and occupied. He urged the government to seriously consider this long-standing issue, highlighting that the people of Guadalcanal deserve a proper space to serve their administrative and developmental needs.
Hon. Lazarus’s statement reflects the ongoing concerns about equitable development and the need for decentralization to ensure that all provinces, including Guadalcanal, receive fair support and infrastructure development.
