A recent incident at the Gold Ridge Mining Limited mine site has caused significant frustration and anger among the locals, raising concerns about the conduct of Chinese security personnel and their handling of on-site disputes. The incident, which began as an internal matter, quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving the community questioning the methods used by the security team and their disregard for local laws and cultural norms.
The trouble started when Chinese security personnel at the mine site caught an employee allegedly stealing. Instead of following proper legal procedures and reporting the matter to the local police, the security team took matters into their own hands. Reports indicate that the suspect was subjected to torture in an attempt to extract information. This heavy-handed approach quickly spiraled out of control, leading to a physical altercation on-site.
The situation worsened when a local landowner, who arrived at the scene to mediate and calm tensions, was allegedly attacked by one of the security personnel. The landowner was reportedly cut on his back, an act that further fueled the situation and started a large commotion. The incident drew the attention of local authorities, and police were eventually called in to restore order.

Although the situation has since been resolved through a reconciliation process, the public remains deeply dissatisfied. Many locals feel that the Chinese security personnel acted inappropriately by bypassing the proper legal channels. Instead of involving the police and allowing the justice system to handle the alleged theft, the security team resorted to violence and intimidation, which many view as a violation of both the law and local cultural values.
One local resident expressed his frustration, stating, “They don’t understand our culture, and they act like criminals too. This is not how we handle things here. We have laws, and they should respect them.” The issue reflects a bigger concern among the community about the behavior of foreign workers and security personnel at the mine site, with many calling for greater accountability and adherence to local customs and legal processes.

The incident has also reignited discussions about the relationship between foreign-operated mining companies and the local communities in which they operate. While reconciliation has been achieved, the public’s trust in the mine’s management has been shaken. Many are now urging the company to implement stricter protocols for handling disputes and to ensure that all employees, including foreign security personnel, are trained to respect local laws and cultural practices.
GRML has terminated the employee and other suspects. Also the the two Chinese security personnel. Investigat by RSIPF is on’going.
