Starting this month, the Guadalcanal Provincial Government staff will conduct a weekly cleanup in the Lunga-Henderson area. This initiative emphasizes the commitment of both governing bodies to maintaining public spaces and promoting community well-being.

The Guadalcanal Provincial Secretary, Mr. Maesac Suia, stressed the importance of proper waste disposal and urged all residents within the province’s jurisdiction to dispose of rubbish responsibly.

He highlighted that improper waste management not only tarnishes the province’s natural beauty but also poses health risks and environmental hazards.

The Secretary’s appeal aligns with broader environmental strategies, such as the Solomon Islands National Waste Management and Pollution Control Strategy 2017-2026, which advocates for responsible waste disposal and the reduction of pollution.

He also said that community involvement remains crucial in these endeavors. He encouraged residents to participate in local clean-up activities and to remain vigilant in keeping public roads and spaces free from litter.

The Guadalcanal Provincial Government plans to continue its environmental initiatives, recognizing that sustained collaboration and public participation are key to achieving long-term cleanliness and sustainability goals.

Guadalcanal Provincial Government also thanks Honiara City Council for the logistic support.
