Honiara, Solomon Islands – Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele returned to Honiara today following his participation in the 12th World Government Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Addressing the media upon his arrival at Honiara International Airport, the Prime Minister shared key highlights from his trip, emphasizing the Solomon Islands’ commitment to global partnerships, sustainable development, and economic growth.

During the summit, Prime Minister Manele delivered a keynote address on Preparedness and Responses to Environmental and Economic Crises, highlighting the importance of global cooperation in tackling climate change and economic challenges. He reiterated the Solomon Islands’ vulnerability to environmental crises and called for stronger international collaboration to build resilience and sustainable solutions.

A significant focus of the Prime Minister’s visit was on promoting global partnerships to boost tourism and sustainable development. Manele announced ambitious targets to increase annual visitor arrivals from 28,000 to 100,000, enhance tourism’s contribution to the nation’s GDP, and create new job opportunities, particularly for youth and women. To achieve these goals, the government plans to prioritize destination marketing, regulatory and policy reforms, and public-private partnerships.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Manele expressed gratitude to the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development for its critical support of the Tina Hydro Project, a great initiative aimed at advancing renewable energy and energy independence for the Solomon Islands.
