The Honiara Water Reservoir Storage Project, a key component of the Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Project (UWSSSP), is making steady progress at its three construction sites: Panatina, Titinge, and Tasahe. Once completed, these reservoirs will significantly enhance Honiaraโs water storage capacity, providing a more reliable and resilient water supply, especially during periods of turbidity and unplanned outages.

The Tasahe and Titinge reservoirs will each have a storage capacity of 3ML, while the Panatina reservoir will hold 2.5ML. With a combined storage capacity of 8.5ML, these facilities will greatly improve the city’s ability to maintain water supply even during adverse conditions, ensuring customers continue to receive water when they need it most.
The project has now reached approximately 80% completion. All steel reinforced concrete elements for the reservoir walls have been completed with the concrete roofs completed at Tasahe and Panatina reservoirs.ย Construction of the roof at Titinge is expected in the new few weeks will see 90% of all concrete elements completed on all three sites.

Looking ahead, the interior waterproofing, external painting, electrical and plumbing works will progress to ensure that each reservoir is fully functional and integrated into the existing water supply network. The project remains on track for completion in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Once operational, these reservoirs will play a crucial role in strengthening Honiaraโs water infrastructure. By increasing storage capacity, Solomon Water will be better equipped to manage periods of high demand, mitigate the impacts of supply disruptions, and maintain service continuity during turbidity events caused by heavy rainfall. With an estimated daily city-wide water consumption of approximately 35 million litres (ML), the additional 8.5ML of storage could sustain Honiaraโs water supply for approximately 5 to 6 hours in the event of a complete system outage. This investment is a vital step toward ensuring a sustainable and reliable water supply for Honiaraโs growing population.
Further updates will be provided as the project progresses toward its successful completion.
