On 28 February, at the Embassy of Japan in Solomon Islands, H.E. Mr. Keiichi Higuchi, Ambassador of Japan to Solomon Islands, and Mr. Jonathan Veitch, UNICEF Representative for Pacific Island Countries, signed and exchanged notes for “the Project for Nutrition Improvement through the School Meals in Isabel and Western Provinces “.

This project will provide sustainable food production support to communities surrounding four boarding schools in Isabel and Western Provinces and establish an agricultural distribution system for these four schools. In addition, the project will focus on improving the nutrition and hygiene of these boarding school students and the provision of nutrition education, which aims to create virtuous cycles for maintaining good health in Solomon Islands.

The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Samson Viulu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and Dr. Franco Rodi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources and Development.

In his speech, Ambassador HIGUCHI Keiichi remarked “I believe that this project will not only contribute to improving the agriculture and nutrition for the people of Solomon Islands, but also strengthen the relationship between Solomon Islands and Japan.”
