Former Prime Minister Sir Francis Billy Hilly of the Solomon Islands has passed away, his family confirmed.
Hilly, who served as the country’s Prime Minister from June 1993 to November 1994, died last night at the National Referral Hospital.
His daughter, Grace, shared the sad news, stating, “It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Sir Francis Billy Hilly.”
In addition to his time as Prime Minister, Sir Francis was also the Member of Parliament for Ranongga/Simbo and held the position of Leader of the Opposition twice, first from 1994 to 1995, and later from 2004 to 2006.
His passing follows the death of former Governor-General Sir David Vunagi, who died last week at the age of 74.
