MP Paea and his team recently met with the Prime Minister to discuss the Ministry of Infrastructure’s (MOI) key development priorities.
The meeting centered on three critical topics:
1. Securing a Marine Vessel – The team proposed acquiring a passenger and cargo ship to enhance transportation, disaster response capabilities, and improve access to health and social services for the islands of Liuaniua, Pelau, and Sikaiana.
2. Access to Climate Financing – They discussed exploring funding options to support the relocation and resilience of MOI communities impacted by climate change.
3. Revenue Sharing from EEZ – They looked into potential ways for MOI to benefit from the revenue generated within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), under the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA).
MP Paea and his team expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for taking time out of his busy schedule to address these important issues, marking a significant step toward securing vital national government support for MOI’s development initiatives.
