Unfair Road Access Fees Cause Talks Online

A recent incident involving unreasonable road access charges has caused talks among residents and drivers in Honiara. A man took to social media to share his frustration after being charged an excessive $1,500 at the boom gate for road access to Parangiju and surrounding areas, an amount he believes was unfairly inflated.

According to the man, the standard road access fee for vehicles traveling to these areas is $100 per truck load, but he was unexpectedly charged $50 per head, which accumulated to $1,500. He argued that while the locals may have the right to charge for road access, the fee should be applied per vehicle, not per person.

In contrast, other drivers reported paying much lower fees $100 for trucks and $30 for smaller vehicles, raising concerns about inconsistent and potentially exploitative charges. The incident has raised questions about the fairness and transparency of road access fees and calls for a more standardized approach to avoid such discrepancies in the future.
