Norwegian Ambassador Visits SOLKAS Project Sites in Malaita

The SOLKAS project team, in collaboration with the Malaita Provincial Government, recently hosted a visit from the Ambassador of the Royal Norwegian Embassy. The Ambassador’s tour highlighted the strong partnership between Solomon Islands and Norway in addressing climate resilience and disaster preparedness.

During the visit, the Ambassador met with officials at the Malaita Provincial Government offices before touring several SOLKAS project sites. The delegation observed firsthand the impressive efforts being made by local schools to plan for natural disasters and strengthen their capacity to respond effectively.

Among the completed initiatives were the installation of rainwater harvesting systems and the expansion of inclusive water access, key steps in improving community health and sustainability. The tour also included visits to demonstration farms showcasing climate-resilient agriculture, underscoring Malaita’s commitment to innovative, sustainable solutions in the face of climate change.

The visit reaffirmed Norway’s support for grassroots efforts to build a safer, more resilient future for Solomon Islanders.
