Honiara, 31 May 2025 β In a significant step toward strengthening digital journalism in the Pacific, the Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI), in partnership with BBC Media Action and the British High Commission in Honiara, hosted a two-day workshop on the “Best Use of Social Media for Journalists.”
Held on Saturday, the 31st of May, the workshop brought together 12 journalists from across the Solomon Islands. The training focused on enhancing skills in platforms like TikTok and YouTube, content planning, and effective audience engagement, key areas for modern journalism in an increasingly digital landscape.
The British High Commissioner to Solomon Islands and Nauru, His Excellency Paul Turner, officially opened the event. In his remarks, he encouraged journalists to be bold and proactive in questioning those in power, stating, βI welcome journalistsβ questions and will always be available to face the press.”
MASI President Ofani Eremae expressed gratitude to the UK and BBC Media Action for their ongoing support, calling the initiative “a big win for media freedom and digital innovation in the Pacific.”
The training marked another milestone in efforts to empower Solomon Islands media professionals with tools to navigate the digital age effectively and responsibly.
