Honiara, Solomon Islands โ Kava exporters in the Solomon Islands met today with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) and the Ministry of Commerce to deepen their understanding of Fijiโs kava import requirements an important step toward strengthening regional trade.
The meeting, organised by the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) through its Export Department, focused on the crucial role that kava plays in supporting livelihoods across the Pacific. Exporters expressed interest in tapping into the Fijian market, acknowledging both the opportunities and the challenges involved.
A key theme of the discussions was the importance of quality across the entire export value chain. From planting and pest control to harvesting and processing, maintaining high standards at every stage is essential for ensuring that Solomon Islands kava meets regional expectations.
The meeting also highlighted the potential for kava exports to create new opportunities for communities in rural areas, contribute to economic development, and revitalise interest in agriculture as a viable and valuable livelihood.
