Honiara, Solomon Islands – In a move to ensure fair and affordable pricing in local markets, the Honiara City Council (HCC) Trade and Commerce Standing Committee has officially approved a standard price of $10 per parcel of cabbage sold at all HCC-managed markets.
The decision comes in response to mounting concerns from the public over inflated vegetable prices, particularly at the Central Market and surrounding vendor locations. Residents have reported inconsistent pricing, with some parcels of cabbage being sold at unreasonably high rates.
Effective immediately, all vendors operating under HCC markets are required to sell cabbage parcels at the fixed rate of $10. This regulation is aimed at protecting consumers and promoting affordability amidst rising costs of living.
The Council has also issued a firm warning: strict penalties will be enforced for any vendor found selling cabbage above the approved limit. Market inspectors will be monitoring compliance closely to ensure fair trading practices are upheld.
