The Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) has reinforced its commitment to inmate rehabilitation by providing five new joinery machines to the Auki Correctional Centre. The initiative aims to equip inmates with practical skills that will support their reintegration into society upon release.
A brief handing-over ceremony was held at the Auki Correctional Centre to officially mark the occasion on the 29 July 2025.
Speaking during the event, Supervising Director of Commercial Enterprise, Inspector Martha Alabae, highlighted the importance of this program in empowering inmates to build meaningful futures.

“These machines are provided to engage our inmates in learning valuable skills and to help them become joinery experts when they leave the centre and return to their communities,” Mrs. Alabae stated.
She further called on the centre’s commandant and management team to ensure the safe keeping, proper management, and care of the equipment as operations commence.
“We are confident that the established framework, the well-maintained equipment, the expert supervision, and the commitment of our trained inmate participants will contribute positively to the rehabilitation goals of the Correctional Centre and the organization,” she added.

The provision of these joinery machines reflects the Solomon Islands Government’s ongoing dedication to rehabilitation and skill development for inmates. This initiative is expected to not only support successful reintegration but also promote positive community engagement and reduce reoffending.
CSSI looks forward to the continued growth and success of this important rehabilitation program, which stands as a cornerstone of its mission to transform lives through skills development.
