The Young Entrepreneurship Council of Solomon Islands (YECSI) has signed a historic $3 million grant agreement with the Ministry of Tourism, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s journey. This is the first grant agreement of its kind for YECSI and represents a major step forward in promoting tourism-related entrepreneurship and skills development.

The signing ceremony, facilitated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was attended by YECSI’s Chair, fully supported by the board. The Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism was also present and signed the agreement, further solidifying the partnership. The YECSI Chair emphasized the anticipated return on investment, highlighting the substantial impact the grant will have on the local tourism sector. The initiative will raise awareness about the tourism business to individuals, directly fund businesses, and provide valuable opportunities for tourism students from the Solomon Islands National University (SINU).
“We would like to sincerely thank the GNUT government through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and their dedicated staff, for their hard work in processing and facilitating this agreement,” said YECSI Chair. “We are deeply grateful for the trust they have placed in YECSI as an implementation partner. This partnership will foster lasting change and create new opportunities for both young entrepreneurs and the broader tourism sector. By equipping individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge, we are paving the way for a sustainable tourism industry that will contribute to economic growth and job creation in the Solomon Islands.”

The funding will be used to implement various programs aimed at building capacity within the tourism sector. Particular focus will be placed on empowering young entrepreneurs, supporting tourism students, and providing resources to small and medium-sized businesses in the industry. YECSI and the Ministry of Tourism are committed to ensuring that the grant leads to tangible and sustainable growth in the tourism sector.
This partnership underscores a shared commitment to advancing the tourism industry and empowering the next generation of leaders in the field.
