Prime Minister, Honourable Jeremiah Manele, MP, has reaffirmed his Government’s unwavering respect for the sovereignty of Papua New Guinea and its constitutional processes, concerning the issue of Bougainville’s political future.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Moresby, Prime Minister Manele responded to media inquiries on Solomon Islands’ position regarding the potential independence of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. The Prime Minister clearly stated that the matter is a domestic issue for the sovereign state of Papua New Guinea.
“Solomon Islands fully respects Papua New Guinea’s sovereignty and constitutional processes. Solomon Islands recognise that the future of Bougainville is an internal matter to be resolved by the Government of Papua New Guinea through established legal and constitutional mechanisms,” he articulated.

The Prime Minister further emphasized to the PNG Media, that Solomon Islands will not interfere in the ongoing political developments related to Bougainville’s status, reaffirming his Government’s commitment to principles of non-interference and regional solidarity.
He highlighted the importance of peaceful dialogue and mutual agreement, encouraging continued constructive engagement between the parties involved.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manele’s official visit to Papua New Guinea has concluded. He is scheduled to return home on Sunday 24th August.
