American runner Yvonne Dubois flew in from Hong Kong to take part in the Fly Solomon Peace Marathon over the weekend, adding the Solomon Islands to her growing list of marathon destinations. A member of the Marathon Globetrotters, Yvonne had just completed races in Tonga and Niue the week before. For her, missing this race wasn’t an option.
“This is my second time in the Solomons,” she said. “I came before on holiday and loved it. This time I came just for the marathon and I hope to come back again, just to relax.”
Yvonne praised the beautiful race course, the local volunteers, and the warm hospitality she experienced. Her efforts paid off she finished third in the women’s 42KM category, proudly representing the international running community.
She hopes the event inspires more locals to take up the sport.
“Running has the power to change lives. I hope we’ve encouraged more people to join next time.”
The event not only showcased athletic talent but also highlighted the Solomon Islands as a rising destination for sports tourism, blending natural beauty, community spirit, and global connection.
