Outgoing Chair Praises Solomon Islands’ Hospitality and Cultural Diversity

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga and Outgoing Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, Honorable Dr. ‘Aisake Valu Eke, praised the Solomon Islands’ warm hospitality and rich cultural diversity during his address at the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara yesterday.

Dr. Eke expressed deep appreciation to Prime Minister Manele, the Government, and the people of Solomon Islands for making Forum delegates feel welcome.

“As our people gather in the presence of the Leaders of the Forum, we as Leaders are humbled to for the trust bestowed upon us, and this is why our Pacific Family meets to work together for the prosperity and security of our Pacific people, Dr. Eke said.

“Prime Minister Manele – with great respect and admiration that I extend deep appreciation to you, the Government, and the people of Solomon Islands for making us feel welcome, with your generous hospitality,” he added.

He commended the vibrant cultural performance that opened the meeting, celebrating the diversity of the Pacific.

Reflecting on his experience, Dr. Eke noted that the Pacific’s strength lies in its unity and resilience.

He highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing regional challenges and building a better future for Pacific nations.

He stressed the importance of regional unity and resilience in the face of adversity, recalling the natural disasters that hit the
Kingdom of Tonga when the nation hosted the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Summit in 2024.

“That experience did not define us as vulnerable but as people of great resilience and people of unity pressing through with perseverance and determination,” Dr. Eke said.

The outgoing Chair’s remarks emphasized the significance of the Forum’s theme, “Iumi Tugeda: Act Now for an Integrated Blue Pacific Continent,” and the need for Pacific nations to work together towards a prosperous and secure future.
