75 CSSI Officers Complete IPAM Training on Public Service

The Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) continues to strengthen its human resource capacity by facilitating training through the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM).

On Friday last week, seventy-five (75) CSSI officers were awarded certificates after completing a week-long intensive training on “Knowing Your Public Service and Code of Conduct”, conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Public Service.

In his keynote remarks, IPAM Director Mr. Solomon Manea expressed his satisfaction with the successful completion of the program, which commenced on 01 September 2025. He used a simple analogy to emphasize the importance of continuous training:

“Imagine a person using a sharp knife and another using a blunt knife. Who will be more effective, efficient, and produce quality work? Of course, it is the person with the sharp knife. Likewise, role-based trainings provide opportunities for public officers to refresh their knowledge, understand expectations, and develop networks. By doing so, we continue to sharpen our competencies and improve the quality of our work.”

Mr. Manea commended the CSSI leadership for their vision and commitment in ensuring officers are trained not only in technical skills but also in their broader roles and responsibilities within the public service. He also acknowledged the dedication of the IPAM Corporate Learning and Development (CLD) Unit in facilitating the training, noting that the collaboration between IPAM and CSSI will continue to benefit officers through capacity building.

He further highlighted that the KYPS course is both mandatory and introductory, designed to meet Public Service Commission requirements. Senior officers, he said, will now be better prepared for changes in human resource systems, including confirmations and promotions, while new officers will gain confidence, competence, and stronger footing as they integrate into the wider public service.

“I urge you to continue to be good stewards of your roles, responsibilities, and of CSSI as an institution. There is only one CSSI, so continue to be proud custodians of this organization,” said Mr. Manea.

On behalf of the Ministry of Public Service, IPAM, and the Executive Management Team, Mr. Manea congratulated the participants and encouraged them to apply the knowledge, skills, and networks they have gained to their daily work.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner and his Executive, Deputy Director Academy Mr. Ariki thanked IPAM and the Ministry of Public Service for their continuous support in investing CSSI’s human resources development, future functions and aspiration of the organisation.
