RSIPF Officer Suspended on Half Pay After Crash Involving Police Vehicle

A police officer attached to the National Traffic Department (NTD) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has been suspended on half pay following a road accident involving a police-marked vehicle.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operations, Mr Mathias Lenialu, confirmed that the officer was suspended after the matter was referred to the Commissioner of Police.

DC Lenialu said the action taken clearly demonstrates that no police officer is above the law and that RSIPF is enforcing compliance with its vehicle policy and the laws of Solomon Islands.

“It was alleged that the officer, who works under the National Traffic Department, was under the influence of alcohol and drove the police-marked vehicle without permission from his superior,”  Lenialu said.

The accident occurred in the early hours of 23 November 2025 at the Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited (GPPOL I) area in north Guadalcanal, further up from Sape Clinic.

Mr Lenialu added that the officer will face a fair and lawful process for his actions.

“The right step at this moment is to allow the law to take its course. The officer will face a fair trial,” he said.
