The Solomon Islands Government has reaffirmed the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme as a key pillar of the strong partnership between Solomon Islands and Australia.

Since 2018, the PALM Scheme has made a major contribution to the Solomon Islands economy. In the past year alone, remittances reached SBD 507 million, with more than 11,000 Solomon Islanders deployed to Australia.

During a Pre-departure briefing last week, Deputy Secretary of MFAET, Mr. Hickson George, highlighted that Solomon Islands workers under the โ€œHere to Workโ€ brand are recognized for their strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitudeโ€”strengthening the countryโ€™s reputation with Australian employers.

Australian High Commissioner, H.E. Mr. Jeff Roche, who was also present during the event, thanked returning workers for being true ambassadors of the program and welcomed first-time workers, encouraging them to gain skills and experience to support their families and communities.

Labour mobility continues to support livelihoods, strengthen people-to-people links, and deepen the Solomon Islandsโ€“Australia partnership.
