Private Sector a Key Partner in Emergency Response: SICCI CEO Highlights Vital Role

The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has reaffirmed the significant role of the private sector in emergency preparedness and response efforts.

Speaking at a recent Emergency Risk Profiling and Emergency Workforce Mapping Workshop, SICCI CEO Mr. James Dolarii emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between the public and private sectors during crisis situations. He noted that the private sector’s capacity, networks, and resources can be instrumental in ensuring an effective and coordinated emergency response.

Mr. Dolarii reflected on the significant contributions of businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, where the private sector played a key role in supporting government-led health measures and community outreach. “The pandemic showed us that the private sector is not just a service provider but a strategic partner in resilience and recovery,” he said.

He also extended appreciation to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services for formally recognizing the value of the private sector both during and after emergencies.

The workshop served as a platform to discuss better integration of private entities in national emergency frameworks and to strengthen future collaboration for disaster resilience in the Solomon Islands.
